Most “private” tools ask you to trust a policy page. This one asks you to run a 30-second test — because here, privacy isn’t a promise, it’s how the page is built:
Timing note: remove.bg’s standalone site shuts down December 1, 2026 (moving into Canva). If you’re looking for a replacement, you just found one.
| FreeBG (this page) | remove.bg | Canva | Adobe Firefly | |

| Your photo leaves your device | Never — runs in your browser | Yes, uploaded to their servers | Yes, uploaded to their servers | Yes, uploaded to their servers |
| Account needed | No | No for previews | Yes | Yes — free Adobe account |
| What the free download actually is | Full working size (up to 1600px), every time | Small preview only (max 0.25 megapixels); full size costs credits | Full size — but the remover is paid-plan only | Full size, within daily free limits |

Honest notes: FreeBG caps photos at 1600px on the long side for speed — that’s still roughly 8× the pixels of remove.bg’s free preview. remove.bg’s standalone site closes December 1, 2026; its removal tool moves inside Canva.

With remove.bg’s standalone site shutting down on December 1, 2026, this tool is a free alternative: an open-source AI model runs entirely in your browser — no signup, no watermark, and your image is never uploaded to any server.
Use a browser-local remover like this one. The page downloads an AI model to your device once, then every cutout happens on your own phone or computer. After the model loads, you can even disconnect from the internet and it keeps working.
Correct — no account, no watermark, no daily cap, because there’s no server to pay for. Very large photos are downscaled for speed, and the first run downloads the AI model (about 90 MB, one time, then cached).
remove.bg’s free standalone site closes December 1, 2026 and its removal moves inside Canva (account required). This page is a free, no-signup replacement with the addition of erase/restore touch-up brushes for fixing edges.
Yes. After the cutout, switch to the Erase brush to clean up leftover background around hair or glass, and the Restore brush to bring back anything the AI removed by mistake. Brush size is adjustable. For a tricky photo (wispy hair, glass, fur), flip on Maximum quality and remove again — it uses the full-size AI model for the cleanest edges the tool can make.
Test it: open this page, let the AI model finish loading, then turn on airplane mode and remove a background. It still works — a tool that uploaded your photo couldn’t. There is no server behind this page, only static files; after the model loads, the page makes no requests with your image at all.
You can upload JPG, PNG, or WebP. The cutout always downloads as a transparent PNG, which works everywhere transparency is supported.
